Hamburger Mary's is best known for our delicious gourmet burgers served in an overall flamboyant dining experience, where every meal is served with a complimentary side-of-Sass!  We offer fabulous nightly drag shows, drag brunch, charity bingo events and other dazzling entertainment.  It's dinner theater like you've never experienced!

Hamburger Mary's is not a "chain," but a family of locally owned, independent restaurants. Each franchise location has its own character, because each owner and each city is unique. But no matter which Mary's you visit, you will experience the charm and openness of the original Hamburger Mary's. People have come to associate Hamburger Mary's with friendly service, a mouth-watering menu and an overall flamboyant dining experience. Everyone is welcome at Hamburger Mary's but our concept is distinctive because we are the only national restaurant brand with a strong history in the LGBTQ+ community.

It all started in 1972... the year that ushered in Liza Minnelli's Oscar-winning performance in Cabaret, the technology breakthrough of Atari's "PONG," and the introduction of Hamburger Mary's to the SoMa (South of Market) district of San Francisco.

The original Hamburger Mary's was a funky, friendly dive put together on a shoe-string budget. With humble beginnings as an eclectic late-night beer and burger joint, Hamburger Mary's quickly established itself as a staple in the local community. The mismatched flatware & dishes, kooky artwork and antiques added to the kitsch and charm of the place. It was an "open-air bar and grille for open-minded people" (a motto we still use today), where everyone was welcome. 

Before long, a second location was opened in Hawaii, then other locations started popping up. Some were opened by the original S.F. owners, while others were granted licensing agreements to use the name. There were even a few "copy cats." Collectively, this was the beginning of what has become the Hamburger Mary's franchise system today.

Mary believes in the old adage, "You are what you eat."  We serve only the freshest ingredients. Nothing beats a Hamburger Mary's gourmet burger… always fresh and made-to-order with an assortment of fun toppings on a tasty bun, including the popular "Buffy the Burger Slayer," "Queen Mary" and the double-patty "Proud Mary!" 

Of course, there is more to Hamburger Mary's than just hamburgers… We offer a full menu from soups & salads to entrees and desserts, with plenty of healthier and vegetarian options as well.  And don't forget about our weekend Drag Brunch, honey!

Wash it all down with something from the bar… Tantalizing cocktails, wines, beers, and even non-alcoholic "mocktails" for those who want to party without the booze.  Hamburger Mary's offers something for everyone, whether you're coming for one of our shows, or just wanting to grab a bite to eat for lunch or dinner.

A trip to Hamburger Mary's is all about the experience. And Mary knows how to entertain!  While each location is a little different, they all offer the absolute BEST in drag entertainment.  

From our "Dining with the Divas" drag shows to weekend "Drag Brunch," Hamburger Mary's is the perfect place for any celebration… bachelorette parties, birthdays, work outings or just a night out with friends.  In addition to our marquee shows, most locations also offer other nightly events like MaryOke-Karaoke, Trivia and even DJ/dance parties.

Mary also likes to mix a good time with a good cause. From hosting charity drag "HamBingo" events and fundraisers to sponsoring local athletic leagues and theatre troops, each location does its part to give back to its community. Over the years, Hamburger Mary's has helped raise millions of dollars to worthwhile organizations.

Mary may be in her 50s, but she is in her prime! We are very grateful and proud of the support we have gotten from communities across the U.S., and we look forward to growing into more major cities across the country.
